ABOUT ME

Hello there, my name is Karen. I love animals and have always had a dog as a family pet since I was young.

My passion for animals really took off when I lived in Spain, and I volunteered at an animal shelter. Most of the animals were dogs and cats, but we did have the occasional donkey, horse and even a monkey! Over the 3 years I was helping with the rescue I became very involved in fostering dogs and have taken around 30 dogs into my home as a foster and I have had 2 or 3 come through my doors since I moved back to Scotland. In fact, I have had at least 1 dog in my life one way or another for the last 18 years.

When I moved back to Scotland in 2018, I started working with children but I still couldn't shake my love for animals, in particular, dogs. In 2019 I decided to start my own animal care business so that I could fulfill my desire to work with dogs (and the occasional cat!).

Since 2021, my interest in working with dogs expanded and I decided that I wanted to expand into dog training. So for 6 months I shadowed an established balanced dog trainer to gain the knowledge, techniques and information needed to be able to do one of the best jobs in the world. In terms of training I use a variety of techniques to create a happy, obedient and understood dog - and a happy owner.

I have teenage 2 children and 3 dogs of my own, one of which has used to be dog & human reactive. We have worked very hard with her training and I am proud to say that she is now my main "working dog", helping out during sessions with reactive dogs.

Photo Below: King Louis, one eyed 3 toothed aggressive Chihuahua at the Spanish rescue. He had been there a week and no-one could get in his kennel due to his aggression. I took on the "challenge" to win King Louis round and convince him that humans aren't all that bad. This was me and King Louis after 25 minutes.

Photos Below: Dingo the Podenco gave the rescue the runaround and was caught on a golf urbanisation in Spain after 2 weeks of evading capture! He was a very anxious, nervous dog who showed no signs of having had much human interaction or knowledge of what homelife was. I built up a rapport with him at the rescue and then took him home to foster him before he went to a lovely home in Scotland.

Right: Kane the Doberman, another Spanish rescue who came to me in 2021. A work in progress and in training to be a great working dog like Sally.
